Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about hydroseeding, hydromulching and our approach. Don't see your question? Get in touch.

What exactly is hydroseeding?

A method where a mixture of water, seeds, mulch, and often a binder and fertilisers is sprayed onto the soil under pressure.

Where is it suitable?

Mainly for slopes, dykes, verges, construction sites, parks and other places where it's hard to seed grass conventionally.

What are the benefits?

Fast and even distribution, less wash-out or blow-away of seeds, and better protection against erosion. It also helps the seeds germinate a bit faster.

What does hydroseeding cost?

Prices vary widely and depend on the project type, the mix, the substrate and the surface area. In general prices range from €1 to €12 per square metre. Feel free to contact us for a price indication.

How fast does grass grow after hydroseeding?

It depends on conditions, but hydroseeding is praised for improving germination and growing conditions, often delivering faster results than traditional seeding.

How does hydroseeding affect weed growth?

Hydroseeding helps keep weed growth to a minimum. The thicker the mulch layer, the fewer weeds.

Is the grass usable sooner after hydroseeding?

Yes, usually. Because the seeds are better protected and germinate more evenly, the area can often be walked on sooner than with traditional seeding.

What is the difference between hydroseeding and hydromulching?

Hydroseeding focuses on sowing grass with a thin protective mulch layer. Hydromulching applies a much thicker, fibre-rich mulch layer, mainly to protect the soil immediately against erosion. This can be with or without seed.

When should I choose soil stabilisation with geotextile?

On extreme slopes, unstable subsoils or sites under heavy erosion pressure, mulching or seeding alone isn't enough. We then stretch a geotextile across the slope and apply hydroseeding or hydromulching on top. The vegetation grows into the textile to form one strong whole.

In which season can hydroseeding be applied?

Hydroseeding can be carried out from early spring to late autumn, as long as it isn't freezing and the soil isn't saturated for long periods. Spring and late summer generally give the best germination.

Do I need to water the grass after hydroseeding?

For optimal germination, regular moisture during the first weeks is important, especially in dry or warm weather. On large or hard-to-reach sites we choose the seed mix and mulch so natural rainfall is usually enough.

How long until the grass is fully closed?

First germination is usually visible within 7 to 14 days. A fully closed lawn typically takes 6 to 10 weeks, depending on the seed mix, season and soil conditions.

Which seed mixes do you use?

We match the seed mix to the project: erosion-resistant species for slopes, sport and play mixes for recreation, or flower-rich and native mixes for ecological projects.

On which substrates can hydroseeding be applied?

From sand and loam to rubble-rich ground and steep rocky slopes. On poor or difficult substrates we add extra organic matter, fertilisers or binder to improve germination and adhesion.

Is hydroseeding environmentally friendly?

Yes. The mulch, binders and fertilisers used are biodegradable. Hydroseeding prevents erosion, limits sediment run-off into watercourses and restores vegetation faster than traditional methods.

How is the site prepared?

Good preparation is crucial: rough levelling, removing coarse debris and loosening highly compacted zones. Based on a soil sample we determine whether extra nutrients or soil improvement are needed.

What's the difference between hydroseeding and laying sod?

Hydroseeding delivers a new, strongly rooting lawn after a few weeks, ideal for large or hard-to-reach surfaces. Sod gives an immediately mature lawn and is ideal for gardens, parks and places where instant results matter.

How quickly is sod usable?

Right after installation, sod is visibly mature. After an establishment period of a few weeks, during which the roots bond with the substrate — the lawn is fully usable for garden, terrace or playground.

Which regions do you serve?

Gazonic operates throughout the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. For larger or special projects other regions are negotiable.

What do you need for a quote?

A short description of the project: surface area, location, substrate type, desired timing and any photos or plans. The more complete the information, the more accurate the price indication.
